Growing up, time flew fast. but the process so far felt like an erosion—slow, unnoticeable, until one day you realize you’ve changed. So far, I've listed 18 lessons which weren’t gifts wrapped in epiphany; most of them were just bruises that refused to fade until I learned what they were trying to tell me. Eighteen is not old enough to claim wisdom, but it is old enough to count the scars. The lessons we learn come to us in different ways and at different times. That’s the first lesson—and so on. 1. Everyone has their own timelines. 2. Your life was never meant to be like theirs. 3. What’s yours will find you. 4. Some things are meant to be yours, but not all things yours are meant to stay. 5. You can’t always rely on those you trust. 6. All people bite. 7. Everyone can heal from trauma, but not everyone chooses to. 8. Burnout doesn’t always mean rest; sometimes it means dragging yourself forward, even if it’s only an inch. Less is still more than nothing. 9. The people you’d die for might not even cross the street for you. 10. Family is not always home. Sometimes home is just you—alone—keeping yourself alive. 11. The world doesn’t care how good you are; it only notices how loud you survive. 12. Not all apologies are meant to heal; some are just to silence you. 13. Loyalty can be the rope you’re unknowingly hanging yourself with. 14. Love can save you, but it can also be the slowest way to die. 15. You don't get over burnout; you just learn how to carry it without breaking every day. 16. The cost of honesty is often the loss of comfort—and sometimes, of people. 17. Kindness won’t always be returned, but cruelty almost always comes back. 18. You will outgrow versions of yourself that you once swore you’d die to protect. Maybe aging well isn’t about becoming numb. Maybe it’s about becoming less surprised—by loss, by love, by the way the world keeps moving even when you don’t. It’s about learning that survival isn’t always noble, and that sometimes staying is braver than leaving. It’s realizing that the people you once swore you couldn’t live without were only ever chapters, not the whole book. Eighteen lessons don’t make a manifesto. They’re just reminders etched into the years I’ve already spent, proof that I’ve been here long enough to know that being alive is rarely about winning—it’s about enduring, surviving.
