"What are your dreams?" "Do you have a dream job in the future?" "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Every year that passes, the question from the people around me about what I want to be when I grow up or in the future remains unchanged, but my answer is always "I don't know" because I still don't know what I want. I often wonder what I truly want to achieve. I couldn't answer people properly, it felt like my future was a vast canvas that I didn't yet know how to begin. When Filipinos were young, they had dreams they wanted to achieve. Dreams that were painted to give them a successful life. But when I was young, I had no other dream but to play all day until I got tired. I have no desire to have any other dream than to be able to play for the rest of my life. I was just copying my classmates and friends back then about their dreams. When I'm asked what my dream is, I always say, "I don't have one yet," but the truth is, I don't even know what I really want in life. When I entered 10th grade, my dream was already formed, and that was to become a Professional Chef. But that changed when I was in Senior High. My heart is telling me to choose the TVL cookery strand, but my brain is telling me to choose the HUMSS strand. So my brain won, and I chose the HUMSS strand. I also joined my Senior High School's publication as a contributor for the news category. I also considered choosing Journalism because I had a strong feeling that I would be happy in this course. When I applied for a Journalism course for college life, the tide suddenly turned, as if Journalism wasn't meant for me. There's a mix of nervousness, fear, sadness, worry, and regret. As if I still haven't achieved what I want in life. My dreams are just an illusion to show people that I have dreams, but in real life, I don't really have any. I can't understand why this is happening to me, what is my true dream really? Do I want journalism, or do I just want to show off to the public? As Filipinos say, "If you have a dream, try to reach it and don't stop until you've achieved your dream." What if a child like me has no dreams in life? What will I achieve? What is the dream I'm trying to fulfil if everything I desire is just an illusion?
